do you think if rosa park had a darker skin tone, would her actions stir such a civil rights reaction?

many people had refused to sit at the back of the bus before rosa park did it. apart from the right timing (time was ripe) i think she was a good poster child for resistance, and we all know all poster child(ren) need the right 'look'

I disagree.
Marcus Garvey was not light-skinned at all, and he was a FAR more powerful symbol.

From a group of people as diverse as we of African descent are, we'd be severely limiting our own dark-skinned perspectives if we were to convince ourselves that we were not light-skinned enough to be effective in soliciting change.

rosa parks sparked a strong reaction. her pictures were in the newspapers and so on. she could have been a nice lighter shade of brown for the whites who sympathized with her situation.

reminds me of obama, he probably wouldnt make it as far if he was as dark as jesse jackson Laughing

garvey was accepted and influential among blacks, he was seen as a threat to whites.

You have a point there....I guess a good thing about this though is that if he get's it he paved the way for a dark skin black man to can run and get it, especially if he turns out to be a good president....Give Jesse a little credit he came close to winning the nomination when he ran.

LS1, you think Kilpatrick has a future? I'm next door to Detroit (over in Windsor), he's a race-baiting screwup. Where do you see him reaching?
