many theologists (the ones who study at seminaries etc) do not take the 'adam and eve' story to be a literal one. should they be teaching it as a 'story'/''tale' with a moral as opposed to what literally happened?

But i dont understand this...if they dont take it literal then they obviously dont believe in the creation story and what kinda theologist would they be if they dont believe in that.

jesus spoke in parables, so its obvious that people related to the God Head are good at parables, it is not far fetched that Adam and Eve could be a parable; a potent metaphor.

It is far fetched because remember Adam and Eve were supposed to be the first man/woman of the earth and it's thru them that the world populated---so turn that into a metaphor and how would they explain how the world populated? and how would they explain their children, caine, abel etc and what about their descendants abraham, david even jesus?

Lol, sound like you have that all planned out ....But in order for the creation story to be true there had to be one man and woman to start...so why could'nt it be Adam and Eve?...If there was just "men and women" then who was the first man/woman?

theoretically the 'first' man and woman could, um, lets called them 'Adam' and 'Eve', lived in a far away land called, um, lets say 'Garden of Eden' (which by the way now symbolizes perfection and happiness) and so on. It does not have to be a literal account of what happened.
